New bins for Dunedin recycling

30/07/2010 15:08:02

A shake up is coming for Dunedin's kerbside recycling and rubbish collections

From February next year, an expanded service will collect more recyclable material, using state of the art collection and sorting trucks. The recyclables collected will be processed through a purpose built processing plant at the Council-owned Green Island landfill.

Households across the city will be supplied a large wheelie bin for all plastics, paper and metal, the existing blue tubs will be glass only and any other waste will be in the current black council rubbish bags.

A seven year, $28.4 million contract with the Enviroway consortium of recyclers will ensure less rubbish in the City landfill.
