Garth Tander is one quarter of the way towards winning a V8 Supercar grand slam after taking out race two of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Tander won the race on an almost empty tank, with James Courtney and Mark Winterbottom in second and third respectively.

Tander is now three rounds away from winning two million Australian dollars, if he wins Bathurst, Gold Coast and Sydney later in the season.

Shane van Gisbergen was again the best placed New Zealander, finishing fourth to drop back to fourth in the championship.

Jason Richards was the next best of the New Zealanders, finishing race two in ninth place. Fabian Coulthard lasted 62 of the 78 laps while Greg Murphy was out on the second lap.

Jamie Whincup finished 18th, but still holds a commanding 135 point lead over Winterbottom in the championship.
