Olympic and world shotput champion Valerie Vili has been beaten for the first time in two and a half years at an international shot put meet.

Arch rival Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus has won the world indoor final in Doha, beating Vili with her final put of 20.85 metres.

Vili had looked on course to win after throwing 20.49 with her penultimate effort.

It is the New Zealander's first loss since September 2007.
