Fonterra yoghurt ice cream ad ruled against

12/03/2010 15:56:01

The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled Fonterra's advertising of its Tip Top yoghurt ice cream did not meet requirements of advertising to children.

The complaint relates to a television advertisement showing a child rejecting ideas to make asparagus, broccoli and whole grain toast taste better.

But when asked if yoghurt would taste better if it was blended with ice cream, the child replies 'yes'.

The complainant said the ad implied that broccoli and asparagus do not taste good.

The authority has ruled that in the current environment where child obesity is a significant health issue, the message did not meet the high standard of social responsibility required in advertising to children.
