Huge fibre optic cable a possibility for 2013

12/03/2010 14:56:01

The company putting forward a plan to build a 13,000 kilometre fibre-optic cable connecting New Zealand, Australia and the United States, is confident it can make it happen.

Pacific Fibre's proposed cable would supply unlimited high speed broadband between the countries.

Spokesman Rod Drury says the permitting process takes the most time, but the actual cable-laying would only take three or four months. He says the team is completely committed to the project because New Zealand needs it and if they can find funding, the link can be in place by 2013.
