Black Caps to bat first, Stewart to debut

11/03/2010 14:00:01

Australian captain Ricky Ponting has won the toss and put the Black Caps into bat in the fourth one-day international at Eden Park.

There are three changes to the Black Caps eleven, with James Franklin and Daryl Tuffey returning from injury and Canterbury batsman Shanan Stewart handed his one-day debut.

Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori says Stewart deserves a chance.

"He's in fantastic form domestically so he gets the opportunity here. He'll bat four and Styris will bat five and myself at six. So it's a little bit of a turnaround but we're hoping it will work today."

Peter Ingram, Neil Broom and Michael Mason have been dropped.

Ponting says they decided to bowl first to get the Black Caps out of their comfort zone.

"I think every toss Dan's won her over the years he's bowled first every time, it's a 100 percent record I think, so that seems to say to me that they're petty comfortable to do that."
