Ministry's cost cutting will see jobs lost

11/03/2010 10:28:01

Jobs will be lost as the Ministry of Education tries to find $25 million in savings over the next three years.

After a value for money analysis of the department the Government has ordered the ministry to reduce expenses.

Karen Sewell, CEO of the Ministry, confirms that the cost cuts will result in job losses but she is not prepared to say how many will go.

"I've got no idea at this stage and I think it would be irresponsible of me to suggest that I have a number because the process requires us to talk to staff, to listen to them, to get their feedback."

Ms Sewell expects some of the job losses to be managed through attrition.
