For 15 years the V8 Supercar Championship has been a two way war between Holden and Ford.

Now, there is growing speculation the sport's governing body is about to relax regulations, that would give the green light to other manufacturers.

Aussie motorsport writer John Fogarty believes Mercedes, BMW and Toyota are also interested in joining the series.

V8 Supercar boss Tony Cochrane is refusing to comment at this stage, saying they will make an announcement about the future direction of the championship later this month.
