Teens were on back of ute in fatal crash

There has been a fatal crash on the Kapiti Coast involving teenagers riding on the back of a ute.

Police say the accident happened just after nine o'clock on Maungakotukutuku Rd near Paraparaumu. The ute rolled throwing the six teenagers from the vehicle.

A 16-year-old girl died at the scene.

Another passenger was seriously injured and was flown to hospital, while four others were taken to hospital by ambulance. Their injuries are described as being moderate to serious.

Police remain at the scene while inquiries are underway into what caused the crash.
