Anger as Pohutukawa chopped down

09/03/2010 14:00:01

A 100-year-old Pohutukawa tree has been cut down in Auckland, angering some residents.

Auckland City Councillor Glenda Fryer says allowing developers to cut down the Avondale landmark, without public notification, is just plain wrong. She says the Rosebank Rd tree had significant ecological, environmental and heritage value to the community.

Avondale Community Board tree spokeswoman Catherine Farmer says at the very least the tree removal should have been notified because there were special circumstances.
