No further problems after high tide

09/03/2010 5:32:01

High tide has come and gone along the Hawke's Bay coast, without incident, after more than 20 homes were evacuated from Haumoana and Ocean Beach when high tide brought waves of up to 5.5 metres.

The high tide waves ripped walls from baches and damaged the road yesterday. Residents are also dealing with several centimetres of silt in their houses.

The Hastings Emergency Management Operations Centre monitored the situation overnight but high tide at 1.20am did not cause further problems.

Weatherwatch.co.nz says the next couple of days will see waves flattening out as the low disappears and a westerly should ease conditions even further on Thursday.
