Blues welcome week off from Super 14

The bye has come at the best possible time for the Blues.

With Stephen Brett and Benson Stanley nursing head knocks from the weekend's loss to the Crusaders, the Blues barely have a fit backline.

Assistant coach Shane Howarth says Luke McAlister is poised to return from a calf problem. He says McAlister is going to play a club game this week with a view to returning to the Super 14 next week.

Howarth says both Brett and Stanley should recover in time to play the Brumbies.
