Assaults on teachers hitting taxpayers

Taxpayers are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars treating teachers who have been assaulted at schools.

Figures released under the Official Information Act, show 442 teachers needed ACC-funded treatment in 2008 and 2009. About $413,000 was spent over the two years.

The most expensive claim was for an assault in 2008, worth about $124,000.
