![]() Liberty Templeman - NZ Herald A jury has heard of the final contact between slain schoolgirl Liberty Templeman and her mother. A 16-year-old boy is on trial at the High Court in Whangarei, accused of murdering the 15-year-old in Kerikeri in November 2008. Liberty was visiting the Northland town after moving to Auckland with her family. Rebecca Templeman told the court her relationship with "Libby" was very close and when her daughter went to spend the weekend visiting old friends, the pair were in constant contact through text messages. Mrs Templeman says her final contact with Liberty was via text, about 4.45pm on the Saturday November 1, the night she was allegedly murdered. Liberty told her mother "I'm having a great time, the weather's fantastic, I'm hanging out with my friends". Mrs Templeman says she knew something had happened when she received no response from her daughter several hours later. The jury has also heard from the police officer who questioned the accused the day after Liberty was reported missing. She says it was apparent the boy was the last person to see Liberty. The police officer says the teenager showed her where he said he had parted from Liberty, in front of Kerikeri High School. She says the accused was quiet in his demeanour and reluctant to answer her questions, unlike Liberty's other friends, who were forthcoming with information and determined to help police find their friend. Liberty Templeman's body was found on the banks of a river in Kerikeri on November 2, 2008, the day after she went missing.
