Wellington bus fares likely to rise

09/02/2010 13:00:02

Wellington bus passengers face another rise in fares as the regional council looks to increase revenue.

Passengers were slapped with an increase 18 months ago. Despite another rise being tipped, Greater Wellington is predicting the number of passengers will increase in coming years.

Council staff are recommending increases that will generate at least three percent extra revenue each year. They are proposing to increase the one zone adult fare from $1.50 to $2.00 and to increase fares through downtown Wellington from $1 to $1.50.

The increases are likely to come into effect in September and the council says that further similar increases are likely in the years to come.
